Acceptable Use Policy
Users are responsible for their activities at the Arnprior Public Library
Community Access program workstations. The Library reserves the right to
revoke the privileges of any user who contravenes this Acceptable Use Policy, the Waiver
Form or the General Rules of Procedure.
The intent of the Acceptable Use Policy is to clarify by example the guidelines
which apply to determining whether a given use is acceptable or not. These
guidelines are not intended to be exhaustive.
Uses that fall under one of the following descriptions are, in general,
acceptable:
- Uses recreational in nature including the browsing of remote sites for personal
information gain.
- Uses related to the exchange of information and/or dialogue with remote sites,
provided such exchange is not for commercial profit
- Uses related to instruction, research, development & technology transer on a
not- for-profit basis.
Uses that fall under one of the following descriptions are, in general, NOT
acceptable:
- Uses that unduly interfere with the work of other users on the network or with
their host systems or that seriously disrupt the network or that result in the loss of a
user's work or system.
- Uses related to commercial activities such as the unsolicited distribution of
advertising material.
- Uses that may be considered malicious or unethical
- Uses that violate federal or provincial laws.
- Uses related to "chain letters" or broadcasting to lists of individuals
in such a manner that might cause congestion of the network.
- Uses as defined by the waiver form.

Rules of Procedure
Users of the Arnprior Public Library Community Access workstations are asked to
adhere to the following protocol:
HOURS
- These workstations will be open to the public during the Library's regular open
hours.
GENERAL
- Although walk-in visits are welcome and will be accommodated if at all possible,
it is preferable that users call ahead and reserve specific times. (623-2279)
Reservations will be honoured over walk-ins.
- A maximum of 2 blocks (not consecutive) of 1/2 hour time periods per day may be
reserved through the library staff. This time may be extended only if no other
person is waiting to use the system. Bookings may be made no more than one week in
advance.
- New users are encouraged to identify their potential need for a trainer. If
done at the time of reservation, every effort will be made to make a trainer available.
- Users will be asked to sign a waiver form prior to their first visit. Users
are responsible for their activities at the workstation. Users who violate the Acceptable
Use Policy will be prohibited from further use of the library's public access Internet
workstations.
- No person under the age of 18 years shall have access to the workstation without
parental permission or supervision. A parent or guardian shall sign the waiver
form on the youth's behalf and assume all responsibilities associated with his/her
activities.
- Storage of personal data on disk for later viewing at home or office is
permitted. Disks may be supplied by the user or purchased from the Library for $1
each. Information may be printed at the workstation for a fee of 25c per page,
payable to the Library prior to printing.
E-MAIL
- Users may set up e-mail accounts through web-based hosts. These accounts
are free of charge and password-driven to ensure privacy.
- Users are reminded to properly log-out from their e-mail accounts to guarantee
others will not read e-mail messages.
